What if an englisch class trip didn’t require traveling at all, but still felt like a real adventure?
That’s exactly what happened at Melanchthon Gymnasium Berlin. For five days, 80 tenth-graders took part in an intensive, creative English project that turned the school into a stage, studio, startup lab and film set — all at once.
Together with LevelUp English, the students experienced an English-only week packed with performance, teamwork, laughter, and real ownership. By the end, the entire school was buzzing with confidence, creativity, and proud voices speaking English naturally.
📌 Project Overview
🏫 School: Melanchthon Gymnasium Berlin
📚 Grade: 10th
👩🎓 Students: 80
🕒 Duration: 5-day in-school project (multi-day English immersion)
🎯 Focus: 🎭 Theatre, 🎤 Music, 🎬 Filmmaking, 💡 Entrepreneurship
✨ What Made This Week Special
From the very first morning, it was clear this wasn’t “normal school.” Instead of sitting through lessons, students jumped into creative academies, each run by native-speaker facilitators with real backgrounds in their fields. Four academies ran simultaneously, so every group had its own space to explore English through doing — not just studying.
Key ingredients that made the week unforgettable:
✅ Four creative academies running in parallel, each led by experienced native speakers
✅ Students fully owned their work: writing scripts, composing songs, pitching startups, producing films
✅ The atmosphere felt like a real englisch class trip — immersive, energetic, and different from everyday classes
✅ By Friday, the school hall transformed into a live showcase space, featuring theatre performances, music acts, and original student films
🎭🎤🎬 Workshop Highlights
Each academy offered a different path into English: so every student could find a role that fit their personality, strengths, and curiosity.
🎶 Music Academy
Students explored self-expression through melodies and lyrics. Writing and performing in English made vocabulary and pronunciation feel alive — not forced. The result? More courage, more rhythm, more voice.
💡 Entrepreneurship Academy
Students tackled future-skills: brainstorming ideas, solving challenges, pitching concepts, and working creatively in teams. All communication was in English, so language became a real-world tool, not a school subject.
🎭 Theatre Academy
Performance-based learning helped students break language barriers fast. Through improvisation, role play and stage work, even quieter students found space to speak boldly and clearly.
🎬 Filmmaking Academy
Hands-on storytelling pushed students to craft narratives, act, direct, and edit short films in English. The process demanded teamwork, communication and creativity — naturally strengthening fluency.

💬 Teacher Reflections
Teachers reported that students showed a different kind of engagement during this week: more independence, more speaking, more collaboration and noticeably more confidence using English out loud.
🧩 Why It Worked
This week succeeded because students weren’t just “participating.” They were creating something that mattered to them:
Every student had a clear creative role and real ownership
The working language was natural, supportive English all week long
Small groups allowed room for feedback, focus, and fun
The school created time and space for the project to breathe and it paid off
When students feel safe, inspired and involved, English stops being a barrier and becomes a bridge.
